Sunday, 16th October,
Let me! Me do! My turn!
Don’t be a silly Sally! You can’t write postcards!
Course I can! I’m as computer lilliput as you …
What?
You know – computer lib .. computer lit … computer obliterate as you are.
Doh – get on with it then. After all, you have been doing the running around for two days.
Right! Sunday 16th October: THEY didn’t get going soon enough to get to the supermarket before it closed at midday, so they drove on to a little harbour town called La Cotiniere where they found a market and bought some of the stuff on the shopping list. But they still had nothing for lunch so they went into a restaurant and had a meal surrounded by locals having their Sunday shellfish feast (trying saying that 3 times quickly!). They both had a starter of potato salad with smoked salmon then HE had a helping of moules-frites –
What?
Mussels and chips – I thought you were a French van?
I was imported from Germany, actually.
Sprichst du denn Deutsch ?
Get lost.
Charmant ! and SHE had chicken breast in mushroom and cream sauce with a load of chips and salad which she couldn’t finish. The waitress said ‘That’s not a pretty sight’, but she was a nice waitress and was only joking. They enjoyed the meal, but it was a bit expensive, so they said it was a treat for Rachel’s birthday.
Then they went to the beach and put up the beach shelter and HE did battle with the waves!
When they got back they fell asleep –
I know!
Get out! And when they woke up it was too late for supper so they just had a cup of soup.
Linguistic footnote from HIM: You can’t send a postcard without a picture, (not my fault if you didn’t take any!) so here’s one:
We bought these solar powered light posts to mark our guy ropes and maybe reduce tripping hazards. The packaging and instructions were in six languages – with a separate piece of paper for each language for the instructions, but NO ENGLISH! And people tell me everyone speaks English!

We’ve been to Oleron too! Good job you can speak something other than English. Who is better at French? Harry or Sally? I have a notion!! Enjoy yourselves all of you! ! !
How can it be for MY birthday treat when "I wasn’t there"….???!!!!
PS That’s my web-name by the way…but Gavi wasn’t there either – so comment still stands….!!
I / We think it’s very easy to have a treat for someone’s birthday, although they aren’t there! I’d be quite happy to know that people had treated themselves while remembering me on April 8th. And we DID buy you a pressie …
