Without wanting to come across as too negative, nevertheless we have met a couple of setbacks. Last Tuesday (3rd May) was a ‘good news / bad news’ day. It began with what appeared to be a ‘nibble’ regarding the sale of Garth View, in that someone who had viewed the house 2 months ago had been back to the agent showing interest again. In fact, the question was ‘what’s the least we would take?’ Well, at least it was a bit hopeful.
But then later in the day, and completely unexpectedly, we heard from the Cumberland Building Society that our mortgage (for the purchase of Murton View) had been refused! Since then, we’ve been able to make a second application through a broker recommended by the agent, and we now wait and see. There’s also been no further word from the enquirer about Garth View.
To brighten things a bit, earlier in the year we had a hard standing made inside the big garden gates – we had to do something; Harry was starting to dig himself in!
And we’ve had the outside of the house painted, in the hope of giving it more ‘kerb-appeal’.
Then last week we went to the French Property Exhibition in Harrogate, where we discovered that the person giving the seminar on the legal process of house purchase in France is the daughter of a former colleague from Ullswater School! She’s based in Leeds, and deals only with French properety issues, so we think we’ve found our solicitor! (When the time comes …)
