How we became a one-van couple (or will soon, we hope), and how Carol earned a Certificate.
First bit of news: THE BOX (The Toyota Camper) is SOLD – or, at least, sale agreed and deposit paid. A lady from Kirkby Thore (just over the A66) who had enquired some time ago, got in touch again and came to see it. She wanted her local mechanic to look at it (OK) and negotiated the price a bit, but seems very pleased with the prospect; I’ve agreed to have one job done on the power steering which is in hand today and all should be well for hand over when she returns from a visit to Poland on August 20th. So now we start looking for the little car which we intend to tow behind Harry; maybe a C1 or Peugeot 107 (same car, we’re told). Then there’ll be two driving school cars to sell and we’re set!
Second bit of news: We went to York again on Saturday evening – first chance to try using Satnav. We wouldn’t do as we were told because instructions from the little caravan site we were heading for were different and specifically said not to use Satnav! But she was very good and kept replanning the route till they got it together.
Reason for the trip? The Caravan Club were running a motorhome driving and manoeuvring course at the Agricultural College and Carol had agreed to enrol. (OK – I was driving when we brushed against Mondeo Man, so why didn’t I do it? Yeah, yeah, bin said. Chuck in the fact that I’ve crashed two driving school cars in the last 15 years while she’s been accident-free! Rub it in, why not?)
Anyway, I think she quite enjoyed the day! There was only one other student, a lady whose husband, also Stephen, puts his big motorbike inside the motorhome’s garage – and we thought ours was big! However, she didn’t want to show off by driving home afterwards, so I haven’t seen the results! Except this:

At least one of those accidents was in the service of your muse, to be fair. But then, also to be fair, has Carol ever moved a whole brick wall several feet with a vehicle she was driving? Yes, I thought not…
Don\’t explain that first comment! – It\’s not public knowledge. And as for the second – it wasn\’t several feet, it was an inch at most.
Oh that\’s OK then. I might reverse the walls of our home in an inch on each side, reduce the heating bills – can\’t hurt surely!
